Snow Mountain Information

Snow Mountain

Current Conditions at Senjojiki Cirque as of April 17 (Snowmelt Underway; Beware of Rockfalls and Icy Conditions in the Morning and Evening)

Hello. This is the hotel’s environmental staff. We would like to inform you of the current snow conditions as of April 17.

We ask that guests planning to hike prepare adequate mountaineering gear before entering the mountains. Depending on the weather and temperature, the snow surface may freeze over in the mornings and evenings. Additionally, there have been incidents where hikers who entered the mountains with insufficient gear were unable to descend Hatchōzaka and had to request rescue. We strongly urge you to refrain from entering the mountains with only light equipment, such as light crampons or chain crampons.

Snowmelt is progressing due to rising temperatures and rain. There is a high possibility of frequent rockfalls in the future, so please pay close attention to your surroundings while hiking.

The Senjojiki Cirque area is designated as a Prefectural Natural Monument and a Special Protection Zone within the National Park. Please take great care not to damage the vegetation. Camping within the cirque is prohibited year-round to protect the vegetation.

We ask for the cooperation of visitors engaging in backcountry skiing or snowboarding to refrain from skiing or snowboarding on Hatchōzaka to avoid contact with hikers.
