Stay and Enjoy

Day 1

PM 3:00

Buy tickets for the local bus and the ropeway at Suganodai Bus Center

Take a local bus to “Shirabidaira Station,” the ropeway boarding station. Park your car at the “Suganodai Bus Center Parking Lot” in the Komagane Highlands, and purchase tickets for the local bus and the ropeway there. Even during the busy summer and fall seasons, if you are a guest staying overnight, you don’t need to worry about crowds, even if you arrive in the evening. *Please note that the schedule for this plan is the summer schedule. Times differ during the winter season, so please be aware.

PM 3:45

Hop on the Local Bus! Enjoy the 30-Minute Ride to Shirabidaira Station!

It’s about 10 km to Shirabi-daira Station. The local bus takes you through the great outdoors. Enjoy the beautiful scenery created by nature, and you might even get a chance to spot antelopes or monkeys along the way!

PM 4:15

Arrival at Shirabidaira Station (elevation 1,662 m; departure from Shirabidaira Station at 4:30 p.m.)

Board the ropeway. It climbs 950 meters in elevation in just 7 minutes and 30 seconds. The Mt. Komagatake Ropeway holds the records for both the highest elevation and the greatest elevation gain of any ropeway in Japan. We’re almost there—just a little further to Hotel Senjojiki, located at the highest elevation in Japan!

PM 4:40

Arrived at Hotel Senjojiki! After checking in, I enjoyed the view of Senjojiki Cirque from the SORATOKI Terrace.

After checking in at Hotel Senjojiki, head to the SORATOKI Terrace. Take in the panoramic views of Senjojiki Cirque while enjoying the crisp mountain air and a special experience unique to an elevation of 2,612 meters.

PM 6:00

Dinner & a Natural Spring Water Bath

For dinner, enjoy a variety of dishes, including Japanese-raised beef cooked on a ceramic plate. Afterward, unwind with a relaxing soak in our spacious public bath, filled with pure natural spring water. On clear nights, you can also enjoy a spectacular star-filled sky at an elevation of 2,612 meters.

PM 8:00

Enjoy the Star-Filled Sky at Senjōjiki

At an elevation of 2,612 meters, the alpine zone offers ideal conditions for stargazing. The crisp mountain air, the absence of surrounding lights, and the peaceful silence create an unforgettable setting. Immerse yourself in a spectacular night sky and enjoy a truly extraordinary experience far above the world below.

Day 2

AM 6:30

Let's watch the sunrise and the Morgenrot!

Amid the crisp, clear air unique to high-altitude regions, the sunrise visible over the Southern Alps is truly a breathtaking sight. Since this view can only be seen before the first ropeway departs, it’s a special privilege for guests staying at Hotel Senjojiki! Also, in the early morning, you have the chance to witness “Morgenrot”—a phenomenon where the mountain slopes are bathed in the light of the rising sun and turn red! If you’re lucky, you can even see it at Senjojiki Cirque!! You’ll have to stay here to discover what the view is like...! (Please note that there are times of the year when the sunrise may not be visible.)

AM 7:00

Breakfast / Hike to Nokkoshi Jodo

After breakfast at Hotel Senjojiki, we went on a hike to Nokkoshi Jodo, enjoying the tranquility and refreshing atmosphere unique to a mountain morning!

AM 10:00

Buying souvenirs at Hotel Senjojiki

A wide selection of original merchandise! We recommend our original T-shirts and original sake, among other items.

AM 11:00

Take the ropeway down from Senjojiki Station!

During peak season, it may gradually get crowded as the afternoon progresses. Being able to enjoy the spectacular views of the high-altitude region and still make it back down the mountain by midday is a privilege reserved for guests staying at Hotel Senjojiki!

AM 11:50

Arrived at Suganodai Bus Center / Lunch at Komagane Highlands

There are many restaurants around the Komagane Highlands (Suganodai Bus Center) where you can enjoy local cuisine. Should we go for Komagane’s famous sauce katsu don or Nagano Prefecture’s famous soba noodles for lunch?

*This itinerary is just an example. Travel time may vary depending on wait times for local buses and the ropeway.
